I went to the Ford dealer to get a transmission filter. I asked the parts guy if the filters were US made he didn't know. He said they may not be.Ford Merkon V is around 7.00 a qt. Is there another brand of fluid other than ford that is the same quality as the ford oil? Thanks for the help. Stan
I agree 100% on the USA made parts. In the 70's-80's, our USA made auto stuff wasn't up to snuff the imports were sending in. However, we have gotten our head on straight now and produce at least equal quality an in some respects, higher quality stuff. It's just my opinion, but I believe that until we start regaining a little American pride and show we support our other American brothers before saving maybe 50 cents on a $10 item we will never fully recover to the great nation we once were.
Hey, I hear you guys on buying American. But we're talking about a filter here, in a Motorcraft box. I need Motorcraft OEM filters in my truck, and that is the overriding consideration. No 3rd party filters for me, and I don't care where they are made.
Some of the Motorcraft fluids and oils are not priced too bad. I just bought 4 gallons MC Gold Coolant and 5 - 12oz bottles of MC Brake Fluid. Brake fluid was $4.77 per bottle and the coolant was $15.95 a gal.(got a discount for buying 4)
The Zerek G-05 was $17 gal at Napa so the MC was cheaper. The $4.77 per bottle for brake fluid isn't that bad either. They wanted $40 for a 2 quart jug of some off brand Dot4.
Advance auto parts brand mercron V is just fine. If you buy it in bulk I think they give a discount. I paid about 4.50 a qt. in order to have The " mercron V" label the fluid must meet ford spec. I think wix or Filtran makes them
To ford spec.
Sorry man but I have to agree. If I am buying a part for my US built truck from the dealer it BETTER be a US built part!!!
Many parts that go into "American made" vehicles are made elsewhere. In fact, some Hondas and Toyotas use more American made parts than any Ford, GM, or Chrysler vehicle.

Just look at Harley-Davidson bikes. All American made? No. Suspension, brakes, electronics are all made in Japan. Even when you buy a H-D part it's made in Japan.
I understand your desire to have all US built parts, I even agree with it, but the fact that a part is made overseas does not mean (as your thread title suggested) that the parts are of a lower quality.
Ford, just like GM and Chrysler/Fiat, is an international company. They have been since the 1920's. Henry realized it made more sense to build the Model T in the country where you sell them, if the volume (and profit) is enough.

I can't totally disagree with this but, its kinda like walking onto the SnapOn truck and seeing something stamped MADE IN CHINA that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I guess I'm bothered more by Fords lack of commitment to country than lack of Quality. I know guys that work on the Ford assy line making $25-$30 an hour putting 2 bolts in all day long but Ford has to go to the lowest bidder outside the country for a filter. Rant over
