I called my local dealer today to price a filter for the transmission in my 08 F350. I was asked the usual questions about engine and transmission, then asked if I wanted both filters, I said both? He said the one in the tranny and the one on the cooler. Not wanting to sound stupid I said sure and got a price on both. Now I guess is the time to sound stupid. I looked and looked and do not see a 2nd external filter? Anyone, is it me or the parts guy who is clueless? By the way the prices were $34 and $44. Also what is the designation for the Torqueshift auto 5 speed behind the 6.4? Is it 5R110W?
And if I understand it right, your truck has either the external or the internal filter, not both. When was your truck built? If I remember right, the later build '08s had the internal filter, while the early builds had the external one.
My truck was built 11/07. So it's an early 08.
I did find this out though. 6.0's have an external filter, I know mine does not. I got the correct info from Cobb's Diesel in Tennessee. It amazes me when parts people at the Dealership talk down to you because you don't know the tranny designation, then give you bad information. John Bleakley Ford, in Lithia Springs Georgia, parts people are terrible. This is far from the first time this has happened where they've given bad info or sold a part they swear is right and isn't. Sorry had to get that out. Oh yea they wanted to charge me 89 dollars to extract the keypad code for my truck as well.
I used to live in Marietta, had bad experiences at all the Ford dealer's around there.
If I were you I would go South towards Columbus or Albany if you feel like looking for a service dept. that will slow down and pay attention to what you need.
