I have a Flowmaster American Thunder system on my truck and it's not as loud as I thought it would be. Would a high flow cat make the sound any louder? Where should I go to get one and what brands are good? By the way I have a '91 F150 w/ a 302
I put magnaflow 3 inch dual exhaust on my truck and it sounded really nice, not quite as loud as i wanted, i put headers on and it didn't get any louder. I wanted to take the converters off completely but no one would do it because of the rear o2 sensors. I found some simm o2 sensors at casperselectronics.com and had the converters removed and the volume increased and now it sounds awsome. the perfomance and mileage improved as well.
Has anyone really researched these high flow cats? The internal ceramic catalyst has small cells that the exhaust gas passes through and every converter on the market today has 400 cells per square inch. No matter how big the inlet or outlet pipes are there is still a limited space for exhaust gas to pass through. So although these converters usually do flow better than the stock converters all the aftermarket converters should give relatively the same flow. There is one converter that just came out by Eastern and it says that it has 300 cells per square inch which actually improves flow and makes it a real high flow converter. I have seen some of the units at a trade show in NC and they look good! Has anyone else heard of these?
