Wow, sounds like a chore.

On a side note, does anyone have any opinions on the 6.4? I have read how the 6.0s were problematic, but I have been noticing a lot of 6.4s up for sale. How are they compared to the 7.3s???

I appreciate your opinions.

Matt

no problem with the 6.0 or the 6.4, just keep about $10,000.00 in a slush fund for when the engine needs worked on.
me personally I love both of them, I work on diesels for a living!

Then i have a question, Bart...

what do you think of the 7.3 IDI diesel engine of 1994 vintage?
my buddy has a centurion bronco i have drooled over for years and he is ready to sell it, any thing to know before i buy it?

You know I bet if we were to traid off neither would be happy.
Its funny I have lived in several places and it seems that way.

Its a trade off usually.

However I would not mind testing Hawaii out for a while.

compression test- needs to be ran and code check.
Check the front wheel wear patern well for indications of wornout bearings and steering armature, bushing etc.

Rear end play and sleeve leaks on the axles

Drums wore thin
Rust distruction on most if from the snow country

Pitting and coolant issues
Cavitation Article

The normal wear on a older vehicle. motor mounts, pumps, eletrical wiring dry cracks on insulation. etc

Cant think of a whole bunch more that that and ofcourse dtc's

over all is depends on who owned it and how they took care of it.

My 410 runs about that. I have been thinking about dropping to a 3.73. After it breaks Also he should know pretty much what he has and has not done to it.

ha, damn, so I guess all the things I have read about them needing work is true. Since I won't have that kind of money in a slush fund, I take it the 7.3 is the way to go then..?

I didn't know you had a 6.0, have you had to do any costly repairs on it?

the 6.9 and 7.3 idi are great engines, many out there with a million miles, u-haul had thousands of them in their trucks. the biggest problem is an engine with blow by will blow the head gasket on #7 or #8 cylinder as the oil collects in those cylinders. (this is NOT a HUGE problem)
as for the bronco centurion I always liked those, the only bad thing I had ever heard was body cracks where the section in the center was added.

That is good to know. How is your gas mileage with that engine?
