Had to go to jury selection today ....... Took all day for the interviews, but wasn't picked (very glad!). On the way home, the truck started lagging a bit, blowing smoke, and then the wrench! Had a P0046 DTC.
Got it home and let it cool off a little. Then talked the wife into holding the flashlight while I poked around. I had her point the flashlight towards the turbo from the passenger side and before I could get my hands up in there she said "that plug isn't in all the way".
Sure enough, the VGT control valve wiring connector had a broken tab and had worked its way loose. Pushed it in and the truck is running well now. Glad she has better eyesight than I do!!!
I ordered the new pigtail, but wanted to make sure that there were no issues w/ splicing a new connector in (like there is w/ CMP and CKP).
I soldered mine the first time Mark (serious Migraine starter there), but when I had to change out the Control Valve, I went back and just crimped them with splices that had "Heat shrink" coating. Then blasted it with the heat gun. I figured it's an input voltage circuit so it shouldn't be a problem. I also use Bluepoint crimpers so they really do the job right. No problems and she runs like a striped @ss ape...Would also like to give a shout out to the parts guy at Northside Ford here in SA...he dropped the Control Valve price over $100 when I nearly fell off the stool when he quoted it...even he agreed it was a little much for a part...
Nice to have some good help Mark! My wife will hold the flashlight but she looks at me the whole time, I think she's trying to figure out if we're all most done. She told me one time that for her, looking at an engines was about the same as looking at a human brain. Lol
The part number for the wiring pigtail you want/need is 6E7Z-12A690-DA. Yeah, those plastic lock tabs are cheesy as hell. I guess after so many heat cycles they tend to brittle up and break.
if for whatever reason they don't have one Mark, I've got a spare in my truck...believe it's just an IPR pigtail...if you ask for the VGT Control Valve Pigtail, they'll look at you like you've got 3 eyeballs...if they don't have one in your neck of the woods, I'll ship the one I've got out...they're $17...and the control valve was $486...got it for around $360
