I am interested in getting a 1978 - 1979 Bronco to use for rock crawling. I would like to know some opinions as far as lift, suspension, transmission, etc. to get me started in my search for one. The main reason for a 1978-1979 is I have a 1979 351M engine that I am rebuilding into possibly a 400 and will probably be dropping that into the Bronco. I also love that body style, as well as the 92-96 body style.
I was thinking maybe a 1979 with the 351M and a T18 transmission.
Sounds like a great project. The 78-79 Broncos are my favorite and there are a few members here with great 78-79 trucks. As I'm sure you know, these trucks are prone to rust issues (mainly from age), but patch panels are cheap.
You have lots of options, pretty much anything that will fit a 73-79 F series will work on your truck (minus the obvious bed parts)
I say go for it! If you buy one to use that is one less that might have ended up in the junkyard. I have a 78 Bronco project working on the 460 4 speed swap right now. Post up questions here as there is lots of good info available. Just be sure to search first or you might get messed with a little.
Hi i am one of the many 78 owners round these parts i think it is a cool project your taking on and a big one. I don't know much about lifts but i would agree with EdgeThis up there on visiting those site, they are useful and some of the parts are pretty good deals.
Good luck and welcome to FTE
