i picked up a 79 bronco today that has the ranger package and its an XLT was wonderin if this should be saved or just parted out? she's pretty rusty but has potential
Ok, you are asking the Bronco forum what to do with a Bronco... The likelihood that you will hear anyone suggest you part it out is slim. We'd rather see an old one resurrected from near death than see her scattered to the four winds. Now if you know someone or can find someone with a 78-79 who is looking for restoration parts, I think we could agree to letting it go to a good cause. That is assuming it is truly too far gone to be restored itself.
There was a bit on the news the other night regarding the cash-for-clunkers program. Amongst the donor cars on this particular dealer's lot: a pristine looking Bronco. I almost cried!
Gov't. can't have mine! Never will! I'll drive it @ 16 MPG (on a good day) til I die or it does! Besides, what do you really think they are going to do with all those old, less fuel efficient vehicles? I can tell you they will not be crushing them all. They may leave the country but not the planet so, what's the real gain? (Steps down from soapbox, carries it away with him).
Finding a straight Custom Bronco would be more rarer than a Ranger XLT. I think the majority of 78-79 Bronco's that were sold the owners upgraded to the XLT model. Post some pictures of it to show us how bad it is.
Mine is a 78 Ranger/XLT, but it is so rusty it is beyond restoration. Now, it works just fine for off roading and wheeling thought. I've passed on a few parts from it to a friend of my son in law in Michigan who has a AZ truck that he was restoring.
