A friend of mine runs several metal recycling locations and called me about a truck someone had turned in for scrap. He said it was a 1977 F-150, 2wd, auto, 460. He said it ran great and he was driving it as we were talking about it. He said I could have it for $500. I could always use a running 460 for one of my trucks with the 400's since they are junk. lol. But this really wasn't a good time for me to buy. Then he sends me pics and it has a factory push bar! This push bar is an absolute perfect specimin, there isn't a dent or bend on it. Well I just let it go for one day, then my dad called me and said he bought it. The semi was at his my buddies place and if my dad was 5 minutes later it would have been scrapped.
My dad gave me the push bar for free, I blased, primed, painted and put it on my truck, see last pic. But this truck we just got is pretty amazing. Its a got a 460 that runs perfect, dual exhaust, center pivot float Holley 4 barrel, WORKING AC!, perfect black dash pad and door panels, near perfect grille shell, very nice super cooling radiator and shroud, and lots of other good points actually. Anyone know whats up with the ugly paint scheme on this thing?
It has the Free Wheelin' paint scheme. Should have a different looking interior too. Are those original factory lights on the bumper too? That's an awesome find/deal!
I've seen free wheelin trucks on here but couldn't remember the details on them. Its got a silver and black seat with red welt (my dads 79 F250 had the same seat), the door panels also match the seat, they are black with the upper portion being silver with chrome and red trim. The trim around the intrument cluster and glove box door are also silver and red. The black 77 in my signature has these same door panels and dash trim.
The fog lights are KC.
That's a sweet truck! I would have to disagree about the 400 being junk though IMHO.
Well I mean my 400s are junk. The one in the green 79 spun a #2 rod bearing. And the black 77 is in the bed, its unknown condition but the fact that its not under the hood can't be good. I plan on pulling the pan and checking it out.
I'm pretty pumped about the push bar. I've been looking for one for like 5 years and this is the first I've ever seen in person and its absolutely perfect.
So you got a near perfect factory pushbar for $500 and it happened to be attached to a great truck, sweeeet. A friend had a 77 free style package flareside, looked just like yours.
I'll grab some interior pics when I can, might be a few days. Now that I think about it I wonder if the black 77 in my signature is a freewheeling package also. Its now painted black but it was originally yellow and it has the same interior as this truck. The 77 has a roll bar on it too that looks like it was made specifically for a 73-79 Ford. Did Ford ever have a factory roll bar?
Its absolutely crazy what people are scrapping these days with the price of scrap being so high.
The same friend we got this Ford from had an elderly couple call in and ask if he bought trucks for scrap, he said yes $200 per ton bring it in. When the elderly couple showed up, my buddy was not there but his worker called him and said he didn't feel right about buying the truck from him. So my buddy told him he's on his way to check it out. It was a rust free 1987 Chevy 2wd, EFI 350 that they bought new with ZERO rust. My buddies worker thought maybe they were senile for scrapping that truck and he felt like he was taking advantage of them and maybe the couples kids would come up to get it back or yell at them for taking it. Well the couple started yelling and they said on the phone they said they'd buy the truck and they want their money now! So they were given the $400 cash and they happily went on their way. Unreal. Its a real nice truck and my buddy is not scrapping that one. He was going to scrap this Ford though.
Oh and my dad ended up getting this 77 for $450. My buddy told my dad that he was basically giving him $50 for free since its worth $500 in scrap but he took the $450 anyway.
I don't think there's much chance for a restore on this one. My family isn't real big on the 2wd trucks.
X2 on the nice save. Make a hi-boy out of her. Guy down the road has a green flareside shorty with a similar paint job. But his is carried over to the hood and the graphics are green with black highlights.
