For anyone that wants to eliminate rust under your truck.

I asked about this product called Blackstar to see if anyone had ever used it and didn't get very much feed back. Well I went ahead and bought some and let me tell you that stuff works awesome. It adheres to rust and leaves it almost looking new. The end result is a black polymer finish. My truck had spent 5 years up north, so you can imagine what the frame looked like. I put two coats of this stuff underneath the truck and if you looked at it you would never know it was a northern truck. It's also water based so its very easy to work with. If you want to eliminate rust give this stuff a try.

I thought about that. Guess I didn't believe it would work that good. If you go to the website and look at the application on different tools that is exactly the before and after of my frame. It's amazing a water based product has a finish like that.

I just ordered 2 cans to test it out, I will take a few before and after pictures this weekend, I have a few places that needs some minor attention before it gets beyond what it already is.

I have used it this past September in preperation to paint on underside of the body where I have some small spots with surface rust and to also paint the frame. It does exactly what the claims say,it reacts with the rust neutralizing it and creating a surface that can be painted. Unfortunately because of the hurricane I only had a chance to spot some of the rust on the underside of the body and didnt get a chance to finish the job, but with just a light coating of fluid film after applying the Blackstar there is no sign of rust under there throughout the entire winter. I do plan on getting back under there to degrease everything and start the process over again. I'll see if I can get pics of the already treated areas. So far very happy. I also usd Blackstar to touch up some light rust on the bottom edges of my front doors, used a wire brush to get any paint/rust flakes off to see if any further treatment was needed before Blackstar and paint. Fluid film inside the doors and all the body plugs afterward. Still an ongoing project of prevention.

Does it only react with rust?

What happens when it's applied to paint?

I have a dump trailer where rust is attacking the seams but if this product is used, there's no way to apply it to only the rust.

From what I've seen it reacts chemically only with rust, there isnt any visual effect on the paint that I can see at all. Actually it seems to wash off of the intact painted surfaces while remaining chemically bonded to rust.

Long term effects at stopping already rusted areas is till up in the air, but I like what I've seen so far

POR15 is a paint/sealant where Blackstar is a rust neutralizer and converter. I will be using POR15 as a long term protectant over the Blackstar on my frame in the next few weeks
