Hello - I just picked-up a 2000 F250 Superduty XLT - 4x4 - auto. (I guess I'll have to change my user name.) I want to find out the type of equipment the truck has: transmission model, does it have a transmission cooler, type of rear end etc. Do I need to call Ford with the VIN? Thanks
Check out the SuperDuty tech folder, All the info is on the Vehicle Certification label behind the drivers door on the pillar (usually) Wheres the Pics?
Your transmission type is a 4R100 (if automatic) Not sure about manual! and I believe all Superdutys have a stock transmission cooler
Thanks for the references. I'll check it out.
The trucks been well taken care of. I was a little leery about the mileage but I read somewhere (maybe here) that a well taken care of, high mileage rig can be a better way to go than a low-mile mess. I hope I found a good one. I just got it today so I haven't had time to take a pic.
Did you go for the V-10? Congrats on the new Super Duty! And you know what they say..... pics or it didn't happen lol
The tranny is a 4R100 for sure. The truck will have a stock tranny cooler, however I'd recommend getting a larger cooler if your towing frequently. Your axle code will be found inside the drivers door near the bottom of the spec plate(two didgit code). If you search super duty axle codes, you should be able to find the list relatively fast. There should also be a metal tag on one of the differential bolts to list brand of axle and what gear ratio you have.
Thanks for the info guys. That's a great link for specs. I went with the V8. I'm going to be towing a horse trailer 2-3 times a year with occasional lighter towing. I'm glad it has the tranny cooler. I may go with a bigger one. I considered a V10 but figured the V8 would be OK for the towing I'll be doing. The truck has 147K on it and looks like it has been well maintained. The only thing wrong is the the cruise control is not working. I hope it's an easy fix. The guy threw in a shop manual. I'm anxious to get and check some routine maintenance stuff - make the truck my own I need to read-up on how to attach a pic. Thanks
