Hi folks,I just joined and have a problem with my 2001 f 250 (2wd) abs warning light.Im a DIY who grew up in my dads gas station back in the day and have always done my own repairs. That being said 2 years ago I replaced the ball joints on the right side.During the process I dropped the entire assembly about a foot while taking it apart.A few days later after the repair the abs light started glowing off and on,mostly on.It has times it will go off but then come on again.Ive cleaned both sensors and recently replaced the right side sensor since that was the side that was I think affected.
I had a friend to scan the system and it kept reading rt side abs.He would clear it and it would come right back on.I checked the wire connections found a possible break fixed it and even bypassed the connector in the inner fender and nothing changed.
This model there is no adjustments on the sensors to make and all they do is bolt straight in.I also changed the front rotors recently and sprayed the sensors with cleaner and the lights went out for a little while and then started again.
I hope the module is not bad.Any ideas on where to look could the drop some how affected the alignment on the right side.I would love some ideas and opinions.
Using a digital volt meter set to AC volts, disconnect the ABS sensor from the harness, and connect the meter the ABS sensor.
Spin the wheel/hub as fast as you can with your hands (it can help a lot to leave the wheel on). The DVM should show .2-.3 volts AC.
If you don't get at least .2 volts, you have a problem. There was a run of GM vehicles that used the same system as our F-series trucks (Kelsey-Hayes). They would develop rust under the sensor, and the rust would pull the sensor away from the tone ring enough to cause it to not read correctly. A low voltage from the sensor would an indicator of this.
Check that voltage. If you get the correct voltage, work up from there through the wiring harness. At worst, disconnect the connector from the ABS module and check that sensor voltage at that point. If you are getting the correct voltage there, it could actually be the ABS module.
