460/Np435 Problems

Well i'm having a problem with the clutch. If I get a 390 flywheel and clutch will this work? What throw out bearing do I need to use? Using a 400 bellhousing.

I would say no, but I don't know for sure. The 390 is an FE, the 460 is a 385. I'm thinking the different families wouldn't interchange

I read through some threads and I am suppose to use the 390 clutch and flywheel. Do I need to change the clutch fork or will the 400 one work? Also the throw out bearing?

Well I'm sick of this, so I think I am just going to order a conversion kit. Anyone know where they are cheaper besides JBG and L and L?

400 bell housing is fine as is the throwout bearing and clutch fork. i used a 360/390 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate assembly, the only thing i had to do was machine the pilot bearing down to feet deeper into the crank of the 460 .

I read a while back that either Jegs or Summit sold a zero balance flywheel for the 460. I was using the 12" clutch from a 400 and I just used the 5/8" spacer plate between the engine and bell housing. I have access to a water jet machine so it was easy to cut it out. I should also point out that I was using a 460 from an 88 F350 that had a 5sp behind it so I got the flywheel that it had( for balance reasons).

I did use the 360/390 flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Plus the pilot bearing, on the 429 that is in my 76 F250 4x4.

I agree with hyperactive 460 done many of these conversion with no problems also have used 83 up bell housing and flywheel from a 460 and had the flywheel o balanced to use on early 429/460

Ok so I read what a pilot bearing does. Now I need to get a 360/390 flywheel. Not finding it on Autozone or oreilly's website.

Check Jegs or summit they tend to have what you need and well you have to wait on them but you might have to with some of the local parts houses
