Well i'm having a problem with the clutch. If I get a 390 flywheel and clutch will this work? What throw out bearing do I need to use? Using a 400 bellhousing.
I read through some threads and I am suppose to use the 390 clutch and flywheel. Do I need to change the clutch fork or will the 400 one work? Also the throw out bearing?
400 bell housing is fine as is the throwout bearing and clutch fork. i used a 360/390 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate assembly, the only thing i had to do was machine the pilot bearing down to feet deeper into the crank of the 460 .
I read a while back that either Jegs or Summit sold a zero balance flywheel for the 460. I was using the 12" clutch from a 400 and I just used the 5/8" spacer plate between the engine and bell housing. I have access to a water jet machine so it was easy to cut it out. I should also point out that I was using a 460 from an 88 F350 that had a 5sp behind it so I got the flywheel that it had( for balance reasons).
I agree with hyperactive 460 done many of these conversion with no problems also have used 83 up bell housing and flywheel from a 460 and had the flywheel o balanced to use on early 429/460
