77 F250 Custom Axle questions.

I am new to the Forum so i hope I am posting this in the right place, I have a 77 F250 and I believe it is a Highboy. I bought it wrecked and am trying to restore it. I have never taken on a project this big before so I have a lot to learn and would love some help. The rear axle is bent, the axle housing and everything. The ID tag reads 4.10 D6TA, I think its a Danna 60. I have been trying to find a used one to put in it but I haven't been able to find one with the exact tag on it. What other rear axles can i use from what years? Can I use an axle from a 67 f250 as long as its 4.10? If anyone has any ideas on a axle swap I would love to know.

You can but it will be 16 spline, find an axle from '75 up (after serial #W20,001) these are 30 spline axles.

If the whole rear end housing is bent then you can use a D60 from the 67, but some of the guys around here have swaped in GM 14 bolt axles because they are slightly stronger than a D60. The only thing you need to make sure is that the gears in the rear end are indeed 4.10. If not no big deal you can change the gears out to make them 4.10 and while your in there throw in posi or a locker.

A posi would be really nice. Thanks for the help. I found a rear end but the tag reads D4TA. it is out of a f250 but i am not sure if that is a D60. any thoughts?

It might be a D44 not sure though they did make 8 lug D44's. You could also pop the cover and measure the ring gear, a D60 is some where around 9-1/2" in dia, where a D44 is 8-3/4". If thats not the axle you want just keep searching. I've got a 4.10 geared D70 but if you want it it comes with the whole truck lol.

Sorry I don't have a photo handy, but the model number will be cast into one of the horizontal gussets near where the tubes are pressed into the diff housing. If I find a pic I'll post it. Pay attention to the spacing between the spring perches since the framerails on F250 4x4s are closer together than most other models. GM 14 bolts are much stronger than D60s but require some fab work and drive shaft modifications for installation.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I have the rear axle cleaned, painted and is now bolted in place! I drove the truck around and I had no noise coming from it. But now I can't seem to get the truck to start! So I will post a new thread as soon as i diagnose some things.
