The first time I posted on this problem, it seemed kinda funny. But now the sh-t has gotten serious. My 96 Explorer keeps unlocking itself every few minutes. I have reset the computer, checked all of the door locks, but can't figure it out. It's just a matter of time before the thing drives itself to the local donut shop. I included a copy of my original post below. I really need some help on this.

Here's an interesting one for you. I got into my 96 Explorer XLT today at lunch and noticed that about every 5 seconds, the unlock was activating and the vehicle wasn't even running. Had been sitting in the driveway for about 15 minutes and unlocking itself repeatedly. Thought maybe my remote entry button on the keychain was stuck--no such luck. Started the truck and no longer happened. We'll see in a few minutes when I leave the office if it is open or locked. Anyone seen this before, or is there a poltergeist taking up residency in my vehicle?
Yes. My 96 has done things like that, but not constantly. One morning while driving, the thing locked and unlocked 5 or 6 times in rapid succession, complete with flashing dome light and chirper thingy. Dang near went into the ditch! Another time, it locked me out while warming up in the morning. This could be due to interference from flying saucers or black helicopters.
I have no solution to offer but maybe you can take comfort in knowing you are not alone.
OK. I went out to the driveway a while ago to see if my vehicle had driven itself to the grocery store for that gallon of milk I told it about, and noticed that the dome light is coming on as well. Stays on for a while, and then goes out.
Probably your GEM. It controls the operation of your power windows (one-touch down feature), interior light delay, speed sensitive intermitant wipers, 4x4 (if equipped), and the accessory delay (radio). When the GEM fails, any or all of these items can stop working or develop a mind of their own.
Thanks, reberhardt. Unfortunately, I work with computers every day and not cars. Could you elaborate? Where is it located? Can I do myself? Will it cost me a month's supply of food stamps? Actually, I wouldn't use the food stamps. Gotta have my pizza rolls!
