I suspect my new (to me) '91 4.9 has no thermostat. With the temps a bit lower than normal the past few days the engine just isn't warming up - stays all the way to the left in the "Normal" range, and takes a while to get there.
I happen to have a Stant #16308 thermostat hanging on the peg board in the garage, put can't find any application reference for it. It's a rather conventional-looking thermostat but in an older package, so thinking they might have changed part numbers. I can see from the stamping on the flange that it's 54mm. Just wondering if it might work.
Sounds like your thermostat might have stuck open. Though the Stant is the right size, I wouldn't run it. Head down to the part store and pick up a quality Gates thermostat and gasket. Depending on your climate, I suggest running a 180 degree instead of a 195.

Yes, I figure it's either stuck open or removed entirely. I can see there's a new gasket in there which is why I was guessing it might have been removed entirely by the DPO.
FWIW, the 'stat I have is a 180 degree, and since you've confirmed it's the right size (thanks BTW), I'll probably just run it. I take it you're not fond of Stant thermostats?
