CPS changed

I changed my CPS from the grey to the blue one. With the old one when I did the change in rotational velocity test with the old grey one in cylinder 8 was 4.9-5.9 and all the others bounced around 1. Now that I have the new blue cps in the same test now reports solid 0's on all cylinders. Also idle seems smoother. Is this normal or is the new blue cps not reading right?

When you did the most recent test was the oil temperature at 130 degrees or higher? The PARCELS will not register until then. Also idle has to be normal. Any elevated RPM will make it read 0.0.

Subscribing. There's been lots of talk about the blue CPS in the past. It advances timing, but I don't recall seeing any reports of the perdel (rotational velocity) numbers. As Ken said, make sure the engine is fully warmed up and sitting at idle. Otherwise the PCM zeroes everything out.

I just went with the dash gage and figured it was hot enough. I'll do it again in the morning.

Ok with the new blue cps in there really has been no change to my change in rotational velocity readings. At idle #2,6,7 are reading 0-.5, #1,3,5 are reading about 1 and #8 is reading 4.5-5.

From what I understand #8 isn't doing so good. What can I do to improve this situation?

I went with the Black DU-87 CPS that picked up from Navistar. Engine is smooth as you could expect from a diesel. I tried the gray one, engine definately don't like that one. I am going to pick up another Du-87 for a spare.

Not much you can do! It is CPS related and if you can't get an original black CPS, you are stuck with it until another version comes out. It really isn't that bad, but like me, I want it as smooth as possible.

I got the newer gray CPS installed in my LATE '99 @ FORD by the recall, never noticed any change in performance or idle, mine idles very smooth, I've got the hpx line from RiffRaff installed-THAT seemed to make a little difference in the idle-mine is very smooth.
