Does the factory-installed CPS tend to fail only once relatively early in an engine's life, or can can they fail repeatedly, requiring repeated replacement? The reason I ask is that I bought my truck used with 244,000 miles on it. Based on what I've read on this forum, it seems likely that the CPS has failed and been replaced at some point in the past. So should I have a spare on hand, or am I pretty safe?
i carry one in all my trucks its an electronic part that fails over time. it might not happen but it could. its good insurance to have one. i had replaced one in my bucket truck that had about 500k on it when it failed (it was the 2nd one)
bought my 01 new and now have 115,000 mi, haven
t had to change mine yet, a few months ago I notice my idle was jumping around a little and though that the cps was starting to go south, I bought a new cps but never installed because I wanted to see if the idle would change if i started useing fuel additive again, idle cleared up with the fuel additive and cps is in the glove box just in case.
