I have noticed some 53 to 55 Effies have small stainless trims that appear to run across the dash and onto the doors.
Was a similiar trim available for the 56?
John
Unbeknownst to most folks there was indeed such an item. How do I know? 'Cuz my '56 has/had it. But when my body/paint guy removed it for paint he CLAIMED that he lost it. My dash still has the holes for it. The lesser known fact is that it came with the rare option padded dash. It's been 10 years since it was lost and I'm still looking.
BBKtech can attest to this.
Ford first offered a padded dash option on the 56 passenger cars IIRC. It was not a factory option on pickups for several more years. If your pickup had it, it probably was an aftermarket or custom addition.
Now thats interesting, i did wonder why they might offer them for 53/55 and then not for 56.
But ten years of looking with no success, i dont think there would be ANY chance of finding them downunder. LOL
I bet the paint guy is high on your christmas card list.....LOL

Well, the stainless trim that was on there fit the dash curves very well and the holes appeared to be punched rather than drilled. The person that told me about the padded dash was the gentleman that upholstered my truck as he had a '56 that he'd owned since it was near new that also had one and it is still in his possesion.
The painter who LOST my stainless had told me, earlier in our relationship, that a friend of his had a '56 with the same holes in the dash, which influenced my thoughts about their 'disappearence'.

I feel your pain. Though not as valuable, my radiator shroud went missing between my body man and the sandblaster. My body man says it probably blew off his trailer, the sandblaster knew nothing about its whereabouts. I looked all over the sandblasters place, drove the route to the sandblaster looking for it... My guess: the bodyman drove a race car in the local dirt track and I'm thinking he needed it....
Show me in the parts book the part # for these items. Or since 56 was the beginning of the "life Guard design" Show me proof in a brochure.
In my 25 year collection of factory literature nowhere does it show a padded dash in a pickup in 56
I dont doubt that your truck had these items installed, just they are not factory.
Bob Jones Skyliner Ford out of Denver Colorado was putting padded dashes in 56 ford truck when they were new......how do I know this?
Find a December 1956 Hot Rod Mag and there is a several page article on this very subject. He was pulling 272's out and installing 312's with power pack options, fender skirts. louver hoods full custom jobs straight from the dealer.
So now I say its not factory but installed aftermarket when new.
That's my problem, I think I've seen all the factory literature and dealer accessory catalogs and never saw a listing for a padded dash option on any truck in 56. Since it was a new "modern" feature in 56 on the cars, I don't doubt that someone made or adapted the sedan pads and trim for the F100.

Sounds like re-arranging his face and making it black and blue, might have jogged his memory a bit better...
