Hi, My name's Maylon I'm 14 and this is my first time posting. I bought a 2000 f250 v10 4x4 that needed a head gasket. I was leaning towards selling it after it's fixed but if i could get better fuel economy I might keep it. My ideas were: Headers, snorkel or cold air, stacks, and I don't know what else. Please give me any suggestions you have!!
Thanks.
P.S. I will also be buying all my own parts so I am on a budget!! lol
Hey Maylon,
Congrats on the truck! Kudos to you for buying and fixing up that truck. I wish I had the knowledge and expertise to do that when I was 14. That's fantastic.
Unfortunately, if you are after better fuel economy, you won't find it in the V10. Most folks on here will agree that there just are no modifications that will yield significant increases in fuel economy on these trucks. They are big, they are heavy and they make gobs of power/torque. None of those make for good gas mileage. All of the mods you mentioned will cost you much more in initial cost than you will ever see in gas savings. You'd be better off saving that money and using those funds to pay for gas if you choose to keep the truck. Sorry. Good luck.
RAGaz is correct…while some folks here claim to have improved MPG with certain mods, nothing provides consistent results for everyone. Even at the horrible MPGs these trucks get, you'll likely never recoup your initial cost in fuel savings.
Thanks!! I really appreciate the advice and I'm sure I'll be back down the road! I might still keep it because I'm considering making a fence repair business but I'll just have to wait and see.
I find that I can increase my MPGs if I don't turn the ignition key to "start".
Just kidding, but yeah, there's really no way to get a whole lot better mileage from a V10 except to keep your foot out of it. If you're heavily loaded and have 3.73 gears, going to 4.30's helps the mileage, but again, that's only when REALLY towing/hauling heavy.
Empty, I haven't found any big differences anywhere...
