oil change
Sorry to keep posting all of these new threads I just want to make sure I'm doing what I need to do to have the least amount of hassle with this truck
. I'm planning on doing an oil change here in the next couple days, and I have a couple questions. First off what oil should I use, I live in upstate NY, and granted its getting pretty nice out here, it is not uncommon for it to be 40-50 degrees out in the early morning. From what I've read some say 15W-40, and then I hear others saying 5W40, so just looking for a little input there. Also is there any additives anyone recommends, like a lucas product or anything, I know I use that in my gas vehicles and it quiets them down and makes them run so smooth, but I don't want to add this to the diesel if its going to just make things worse, haha. I already bought the motocraft 20 dollar oil filter, just waiting on which kind of oil to get. Was thinking about doing the big pail of rotella 15W40 synthetic, but wanted to ask before I purchased. Thanks again!-Steve E
That being said, here is my recomendation. Run a 5W40 synthetic diesel rated oil. There are many choise on this as well. I like Rotella T6. I have been runing that on both my 6.0's for a combined milage of ~180K miles, and have never really had an injector issue. Can't say that's the only reason why, but that's just what I like to run. Also, even with synthetic be sure to change your oil every 5K miles.
Don't use any additives to the oil either.
Great oil!! Been using it for 2 years!!

Like I said earlier my recomendation is the Rotella T6. I have seen some guys on hear talk about running a 10W30, but have never really paid to much attention to it.
