I have just switched to Mobil 1. I was told by a certified tech to change it the first time @ 3000 miles, then the second time @ 5000 miles. Then every 5000 miles. I have seen a slight fuel increase, but I also installed a K/N filter at the same time so.... Hope this helps
Mobil 1 is NOT rated for the diesel. Synthetic or not, the oil must be rated CH-4/SJ. The injectors are operated by high pressure oil and if the properly rated oil is not used, the oil will foam and the injectors will not work properly. Most who switch to synthetic also add a bypass oil filter to the system going 8-10k between changes with synthetic. Synthetic is not cheap and remember your engine holds 15 quarts of oil.
Interesting thing I saw on Hot Rod TV the other day. They dynoed a car with convetional oils then swapped everything over (engine, trans, diffy) to Royal Purple synthetics. They picked up 10 or 20 horse power with just the lube change.:-staun
Might have been just promo BS
(do ya think)!
