Kper05, not all of us 7.3 owners, I just made the switch two weeks ago and no reservations about it, Loved my 2000 F350 Larriat crewcab, but sure lacked new comforts, and modern Technolgy. my 7.3 makes 450Hp 860ftlbs, but only a 4spd trans
Racing 1320, no air bags on truck. The fiver brings it down 1.5 inches when I hook it up. Sounds like you will be running more pin weight than me though. Hope on next outing to get to a weigh station and get true weights.
Drillbittailor, hope you have a great trip. I am sure you will be pleased with the way it pulls.
Another thing I liked was the electronics while towing. Able to scroll from tranny/oil temp down instant milage or the truck app where it shows angle degree truck is running. Did find that majority of mountain pull was 3 degrees, and I have a short pull up to my house that is 8 degrees. I have to stop, turn left and then hit the hill. Truck handled it. Just get ready for that grin after you pull.
Yes but the 6.7L is doing good so far.
It will be a number of years before the diehard 7.3L fans accept this new engine.
LOL I know soooo many of those guys. They are so hard core. I have a neighbor that said he was going to buy another 7.3L motor if his ever blows up instead of buying a new truck. LOL
Seems there can be some pretty big differences in reported mileage with these trucks. Yesterday I drove from Flagstaff to Las Vegas (NM) to pick up a 33 ft 9000Lb GN 3 Horse Living Quarters trailer. 19.8 on the way there, 9.8 on the way home. Hmmmmmm........
travlingman, great to hear how well the truck did for you on that tow. I live near Greenville SC and are familiar with those hills.... my 7.3 pretty much lives in 3rd on hills like that (10k 5er towing).
Curious what gear(s) you were in on the climbs or if you were able to use OD?
And for the record I'm not too die hard on the 7.3 - I love it, but if I had the money I'd have a 6.7

I received the truck back from the dealer yesterday. They installed the alarm and the Line x. Today I had the hitch installed. I could not wait to get home to see how the truck would handle the trailer. The truck went down 2 1/2 inches. The rear part of the top spring was just touching the rubber bumper. I still have another 500lbs to *** to the bed of the truck. I have an auxiliary tank that will hold 63 gallons of fuel.
I think I may need the air bags. I called a few places and they said not to add a spring, install the air bags if needed. I was hoping that I would not need the air bags but if it is just touching, if I hit a bump or a dip - it will not feel good when driving.

Stayed in 6th gear well past the Cliffs entrance, held 5th past the left turn off, 18-1900RPM, where I had to get in left lane to pass trucks. I kicked down to 4th and held 23-2400 RPM's for rest of climb and topped at 60 mph. I really think it would have done it in 5th if I let it. It did do Sams Gap coming from NC back into TN in 5th at 60 mph, 1900 rpm.
