Longest pull yet.

So I've had my truck for a year and a half now and,up till today have only pulled my camper 150 miles at any given time. I was happy with it then and, nothing has changed. Today I pulled around 600 miles. The camper weighs about 7200 lbs. all in all a good day. It only dropped down on a couple of hills, only because I was following slower traffic and was trying to get around them. I had a regen around 100 miles into the trip and, one about 400 miles later. The thing that I didn't care for was that it was in passive regen most of the day. Mileage was right around 9.5( computer not hand calc) I think I could have done better if not for the passive crap. Oh well still better than the gasser I traded in on it.( 5.5 mpg towing the same camper). 200 miles to go and then it's off to work for a month and, pull her home. Hopefully I will get the same or better then.

The regens do hurt, but like you said, better than the gasser.

passive regen does not burn any fuel.

it is the exhaust itself is hot enough to burn the soot off, requiring less active regens.

Towing gives passive regens but uses more def.

I can run cross country with almost no active regens with a heavy trailer.

MPG's are what they are. You are towing a sail. Good news is double the weight of the trailer and your mpgs will still be the same.

That's good to know on all counts. Mpg was the same today. Got into some hills and headwinds today. No matter though, still very happy with it.

What speed do like to tow? The wind resistance as speed increases is pretty amazing. Your gas mileage will be better at slightly lower speeds. I get 12.5 mpg at 64 mph, 11 at 66, and 10 at 70 while towing our full profile fiver st 14.5 k lbs.

You can arrive at your destination quicker by driving slightly slower. This is because you will stop less often for fuel. Fuel stops cost you more than 15minutes.

It took me a few trips to prove this to the wife. We drive the exact same 350 mile route to Jekyll Island several times a year. I don't have to stop for fuel driving 67 mph, if I drive 69 or 70, a fuel stop is required costing us lots of time that can't be made up at a differnence of 2 mph.

On our super long coast to coast trips I typically cruise at 68 mph.

I do agree with you to a point Averill7, but I can't not pee in the time it takes to drive 350 at any legal speed.

And an AUX tank would mean you could 70mph and still not stop. (or a replacement tank). And an AUX tank with 90 gals....

Your correct. We NEED larger tanks on a machine that is designed to pull. I really like pulling 70 most of the time too. It keeps the Rpms high enough to get full boost without down shifting on rolling slight hills. I have to use cruise too, if I don't I will be doing 80 without knowing it.

As for the pee, diapers? Just kidding.

I was pulling at 64-65 due to the speed rating on the tires. Didn't feel like changing a tire in the heat.

I pull 58-65 most of the time, because most of the time I have more time than money...

I'm the opposite, not saying I like spending the money but I never have the time.

I drag the 15k fiver at 75 most of the time. Occasionally faster if I'm in a hurry, most of the speed limits anymore are 70 or 75 and 5 over is pretty standard for me.

I still get at least 10 mpg and the trucked is lifted on 35" mud tires. Even in a strong head wind I'll get at least 9 doing 70-75.

Longest pull....975 miles from GA to Wisconsin. Average of 9.0 mpg in a dually with 18k camper.

Brandon, I agree. Slower is better, but my truck likes to stay at 70. My '10 liked to run at 72mph...

Where did you two go this year Brandon??

I set the cruise at 60 in Ca. Max speed towing is 55 and the Chips never, knock on wood, never bother me at 60.

Senix - I am about to match your longest. Planning to drive to Florida, en route pick up a trailer, and then return to Alaska with it. Should be somewhere between 5500 and 6000 miles towing.
