I have a 92 Bronco and I am looking to do a 1 ton SAS from a 95 F350 and also I will be putting a 460 in the Bronco. my first question is, does anyone have any advice or tips on the SAS, the rear's not going to be a problem but I want to use leaf springs for the front and need some advice on how to start it out.
My second question is that I plan on running the 460 with an high torque low rpm cam with 0-5500rpm. on top of that i am looking to bore out the 460 to gain some power and torque but i'm not positive what a safe bore would be with great output. if you would give me some tips and advice on either one it would be greatly appreciated.
Plan on a metric butt-load of fabrication work. NO Bronco ever had front leaf springs so there is no provision for them on the frame anywhere.
The 460 will certainly fit but you will need a different transmission as well since the bolt pattern on the 460 does not match any of the OEM Bronco engines/transmissions in 1992. If you swap transmissions and engines be aware that removing the electronics will require changing speedometers because the PSOM (Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module) in the dashboard is driven by the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in the rear axle but the information is calculated and fed to the PSOM through the ECA (onboard computer). By the way, the PSOM includes the entire gauge cluster in the 92-96 model trucks.
Personally, what you are planning is a serious step BACKWARDS in technology in every direction. You will spend a ton of money taking the suspension and drivetrain two decades backward from where the 92 is as it sits stock. You would be better off starting with a truck that is 15-20 years older. Heck, a 78 or 79 still has a solid D44 up front and is coil sprung which provides better articulation anyway. 78's-79's will also accept the 460 WITHOUT the need to swap transmissions. Just my $0.02.
thanks for the tips guys i appreciate it, and i already have a 460, trans and a divorced transfer-case from a donor. the thing with the coils is that i'm going to be running a lot of mud and not much rock crawling and i had heard that running leafs would benefit me, I'm not real worried about the fab work I just want the best i fit i can get. thanks again
I don't think the difference between coil and leafs matters in mud, they don't mind getting dirt either way. But i would go with the majority here and look for a 78-9 that is already adept to the 460. If you lived in my area they can be scarce but some people see them all the time. I have only seen a few around me besides my own.
