Yes, I've seen a couple of them. Ended up with a lot of firewall and inner fenders cut out. It is a tight fit. The main complaint from those who have done the swap was excess weight on the front end.
351W is probably the best swap into an EB, IMHO. Great low end torque. Ya wanna make it bulletproof, get an adaptor and put in a real truck 4 speed. I was gonna do that, but ran outta bucks.
A 460 is kinda overkill, unless you plan on going out and racing it...anywhere...mud, etc. But yeah... you'd about have to gut the engine compartment to get it in and even be able to change plugs once in a while.
Unless you're really into it... I'd stick with a small block.
There is no substitute for cubic inches, however, think Gas, I had a 460 f150, it got 8-9 MPG downhill, uphill, loaded, unloaded, upwind, downwind, didn't matter. How much gas you carrying?
I've hear of several people swapping them, though I've only seen a couple in person. It is not a simple engine swap. Pound for pound/HP for HP I believe a 351W would be a better swap. When I built a 393W for about as much as a stock rebuild. I call it "well powered". There was definatly a noticable difference over the stock 302.
Heck I have a 89 F-250 with a diesel 5spd that I'm kicking the idea around of putting in my 70 bronco. Just can't bring myself to cut up the F-250, runs to nice. What does everyone think about that? Diesel with dual stacks in a 70 bronco.
Built a 76 mud/rock rig with a 69 continental 460 a out 15 years ago. It's a lot if work but the added weight, tourque, heat, all can be accommodated for. It makes a unique rig whole power, toughness, flexibility and uniqueness will eat any heavy built jeep for lunch! About to sell mine as I've aged out. Anyone interested in building their own, or buying mine may text me at 334',, four55-, Fiteen seventyfive
