Really!!!

I usually drive very short distances to and from work or I am driving up and down local mountain roads. When driving around i normally get around 14 mpg which i think is actually pretty good for the weight of this truck and the fact that i dont drive really slow! Well yesterday our family drove 120 miles on flat road keeping speed around 80 mph; when we arrived I checked mileage and to my surprise it was 19.1. I am a happy camper and still loving my truck everyday. Hope you all are enjoying yours as much as I am.

These things get amazing mileage for the weight, size and shape - including the fact that they are about as aerodynamic as a brick.

Sounds like you have standard size tires? What gear ratio you running?

That 19 mpg is awesome...especially driving around 80.

I couldn't hit 19 mpg at 80 mph if my life depended on it. The best hand calculated mileage I can get is about 17.

I have an idea about mpg drop after a bit of ownership....

I think, like all other mpg factors, that driving style is STILL the biggest variable...

i.e. when new, you are learning the truck and maybe even driving it easier than you normally would,
then as you get 'used' to the truck, you start driving it basically like it's no longer a new truck and DRIVING

it then becomes an appliance that you just USE and abuse ! YRMV

trust me, am tickled pink over the mpg this 12 gets as compared to my other diesels,
but I certainly didn't buy it for the mpg

I have stock 20" rims and tires with 3.73 rear end. Yes driving style is the biggest factor I believe. During this trip I was watching the little green mpg meter and feathering the throttle to really see what I could push our of her without sacrificing speed!

You mean 3.55. You can only get the 3.73 with the dually and they don't come with 20" wheels

I've driven trucks with both the 3.55 and 20" and trucks with 3.31 and 18's, I get about the same mileage at 80 mph with either. The taller tires on the 20" rims make up for the stiffer gears with the 18's

I am sure elevation has something to do with it as well. I have never got that here in Colorado.

On the open road I can get 19mpg on a good day. That having been said, as soon as I get off the highway and in to some stop/go areas the mileage drops off. Same goes for regen cycles.

My overall average is 17.1mpg. On a regular day I am right around there - 16.5 to 17.5.

A head wind will make a big difference, as does a tail wind. It can make the difference between 19mpg and 14mpg.

Update- just got back home. Not a long trip by any means but here are the stats. Trip was 286 miles, 218 highway the rest around town here and there mostly 5-6 mile drives. There dic said 19+ dropped down to 15.9 around town. Heading home strong headwind i would say around 20 mph drove at 70-75 mph. Arrived home dic said 16.4. Hand calc trip at 16.6. I am one happy camper and actually got some seat time in my beast!

I went up to Winter Park from Col Springs, some long climbs and switchbacks up to Berthoud pass, not a long ways away but got 19.2 MPG as calculated by the truck. Wow, pretty amazing, and the short climbs up seemed effortless as compared to my 07 6.0. I need to take a level road trip somewhere to see if it climbs higher.... the truck and I like to stay in the mountains.
