Well, after reading about all the bad reports on our trucks, I thought I would post something good about them. We just returned from a 10 day trip out to Montana and Yellowstone and the truck was awesome! We did not have any problems on the ride, and I cannot believe how comfortable it is. I think it is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. Got a lot of positive comments on it. Did a few 12 hour days, and probably could have kept going. Put on 3,643.2 miles and used 194.126 gallons of gas for an average of 18.8 MPG. The truck calculator had us at 17.9. The only problem is that I now have over 6,000 miles on my new truck! (The skiing was worth it though). I think I'll keep this one for a while....
Congrats on your maiden voyage. I just got back last week from my first roadtrip from Oklahoma City to the East Coast and back.
I was a little disappointed in my MPG. I originally got about 18 MPG when I first picked up the truck and drove it home. After I put some bigger tires and lifted it, I expected to lose a little MPG but wasn't ready for the initial shock. I got about 12 MPG on my first couple hundred miles until I realized I was driving a big truck and not a sports car. My average speed on my first leg was 85 mph...
I checked throughout the drive and noticed I would gain about 1-2 MPG for every 5 MPH I slowed down. Getting 13 MPG at 80 MPH and 14 MPG at 70 MPH Even got 17 MPG at 55 MPH. But I had more money than time and the truck cruises so well at 75. I figured I would "just drive it"! After the trip here's my summary.
This truck is awesome to drive. Even with 35" tires and a lift I'm getting about the same gas mileage as my old stock truck gas burner.
Also had to fill the DEF for the first time at around 3500 miles.
I get around 16 if I'm pushing 80 mph empty for a long period of time but I'll see above 18 if I keep it around 70 mph so sounds about right.
I have stock tires.
You're right, it doesn't feel like your driving 80 mph.
Towing my truck has never been over 65 mph so it does quite well considering; 12-14 is my experience depending on weight, wind, etc..
Yeah, that 85 through North Dakota and Montana kind of kills the mileage. Funny thing though, it sure didn't seem like we were doing 85! Haven't had to fill the DEF yet, checked the readout and it said I was below 1/2 full..
Sure do love driving this truck. Taking the snowmobile trailer up to the UP next week, we'll see how that goes.
