I am at a total loss and am hoping someone can help. I have a 04 F350 early built motor. The engine runs quite well but I have no oil pressure on the low pressure side. I little history on the repairs already made. I have changed the hpop, oil cooler, front cover, oil filter base and check valves, and the lpop. I have pressure tested the hpo system and all checks out. The stand pipes and dummy plugs have all been updated. The truck will start and run but is developing no oil pressure. The oil pressure has been checked with a mechanical gauge. The local ford tech has said that the next step would be to pull the motor and pressurize the oil system to look for leaks. I hate to spend that kind of money on a hunch. Any insight would be helpful. http://images.ford-trucks.com/forums...ilies2/mad.gif
Sorry - I missed that in your original post. Basically your truck will not run with no pressure in the LPO system. Something has to be wrong w/ your pressure readings.
That's the funny part it builds maybe 5psi at idle and will build enough to shut the idiot light off at 2500 rpm. The dealership mechanic thinks it may be a bad lifter. What I question is the lack of wear metals in my last 3 oil samples. I would think that a bad lifter would have showed up.
I had the same exact problem minus checking it with a mechanical gauge a few months ago. Truck ran perfect but low oil pressure on the dash. Changed the LPO switch & been good ever since.
Here is where you should be at:
Oil pressure - minimum 12 psi at 700 rpm, 24 psi at 1,200 rpm and 45 psi at 1,800 rpm with engine at operating temperature
This problem started with the truck cutting out will going done the highway. It shut down and would not restart. I changed the hpop and it starts now and runs. The low pressure is supposed to be around 25psi I think. I am a little worried about burning up a new hpop because of lack of oil flow
Sure sounds like you have verified the low pressure condition is real! I have to admit that I have not heard of or seen that condition before (truck running fine with LPO pressure not being enough to activate the oil pressure switch for the dash gauge).
