could i do a cat delete?

one of the guys I work with said that I could gain a bunch of horsepower by deleting my cats and clearing the code? do they do smog testing for inspection or anything like that here in texas? I am just asking a question, I am not saying that I believe him.

Where do you think there is that much HP by deleting cats?
Next, you don't just clear codes when the rear OX sensors are missing or in operative.
It doesn't work like that.
I don't know what the emmsisons inspection is in your state with out researching it.
If you already run a vehichle, why don't you know?
Leave things alone, there is no worthwhile gains.
Good luck.

No gain at all unless they're plugged.

I replaced my plugged cat,

Gave me a lot of HP back.

I don't recommend deleting the cats, there are federal laws regulating them, even if you don't have local inspections.

Thanks!

Read this. It depends on what county you are in.

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/Interne...orms/VI-51.pdf

You can also contact the state and inquire about current or planned inspections in your area.

Deleting the Cat,s on a MUCH older vehicle would help, but not on the newer ones..Id say 80 to present. The old theory was that eliminating the cats would eliminate exhaust restriction ,and therefore make it "breathe" better. That was in the OBDI era.OBDII is a whole different ballgame.MANY more engine paramtaters monitored, and controlled.
Besides the fact that is not legal(Federal)...taking them off will reduce fuel economy, effect driveability.
This is my .02
