Its illegal to cut off the cats in any state. Even here in FL where we dont have emmisons testing its illegal to remove the cat unless your replacing it with another cat.

If the person cutting off the cat has a conscience, he will.

Federal deal, fine at least $10,000, but I've never heard of anyone getting pinched for it. The usual beef is that the truck won't pass and can't be registered, but even there, who cuts the cat off knowing he has to see the smoggie? It usually fails due to some other component being bad or hacked.

Go ahead, cut it off, you will probably gain 100hp and 10 mpg.

I don't know, guess I just have my own strange quirky ideals.....

I want the fuel burnt in the combustion chamber, not in the exhaust system....

For the most part it will, but the thermactor (A.I.R. pump) and the cat completes the remainder of the combustion process, the part that will not happen in the combustion chamber.

I know for a fact that horsepower gains of 1000 hp or more are possible without a cat. Just ask John Force!

That's an engine design thing. Maybe the Miller cycle engines from Mazda?
