Anyone know of or accomplished a 4BT cummins swap in a 2wd 67 to 72? I am really considering it and would like to know what was involved. I do know those little boogers are hard to find!

Look for Carcrafter. I think it is actually CarCrafter22. He put a 4cyl diesel in a '67 but I don't remember what make the engine was.

I believe Carcrafter22 used an Isuzu with startling results. I also want a 4BT and passed on a low mile unit with TH400 for $3000 because I want a stick. I haven't been able to find anything comparable since. Now I know that if the TH400 was there already a stick swap would have been easy.

I'm not sure if it's really doable, the BT series is quite tall and has a deep sump as well. The rear steer setup on the pre-79 trucks makes this sort of thing a pain to deal with, since many desirable swap engines are rear sump.
A 4x4 is much easier with the front steer and different shape to the cross member.

Carcrafter22 used the CV swap up front giving rack & pinion out front.

my 2 cents.... look for a 6bt the 4bt is a great motor, BUT i just put a 4bt in my yoda about 8 months ago and its just enough for that little tuck. you have all the room in the world for the 6bt and in most cases its easier and cheaper to find the 6bt. and i promise you, if you go with the 4bt you will want more from your full size truck.. good luck in what ever you do though,...

Well, that is an option actually. But the weight! Those are like 1200lbs. I will totally agree that they are readily available and cheaper. Don't think a c/v front end would be too happy under neath that. A MII would be OK with the right set-up. Maybe fabricate an airbag set up for the I beams. However, I really don't do anything with my truck but drive it to work and shows; might do a load of mulch every spring and parts chasing. I am sure the 4bt would be fine. If not, I could do a few upgrades. I planed on getting a stocker, adding an inner cooler, and seeing how I like it. I know there are things you can do to them to get good power.

I am going to try to contact carcrafter22; if he still lives in the same location, that is only about 20 min from me.

I put a 4bt in a 85 blazer and my boss put one in his scout ii with the 727 and they both move those heavy beasts around at hwy speeds and 20 mph on a average.

thats true... if your not gonna pull anything maybe its a go... and u can go for any power torque ratio you want. i have seen people get up to 800 hp out of a 4bta. thats about 1200 ft lbs torque. and there is a few really cheap up grades you can do. depending on what pump it has. the p7100 or the ve pump. larger injectors are about 75.oo each. 32000 governer spring is about 15 bucks. you can grind your own fuel plate. so there is some qick cheap easy things you can do to gain 100 or so hp. all it takes is money. a stock 4bta is about 115hp and around 300 ft lbs torque. but then ur back to avalability, but they can be found for sure. i know of a 4bt non intercooled with low hours that i may be able to get for the right price. and i ran a sm420 chev 4 speed and 208 t-case behind mine. but its more of a crawler/hunting truck so with that combo im really low geared. hope any of that helps.

A guy I know had a 4BT put into a 3/4 ton Chebby. I don't know what kind of power he's got it putting out, but he said it's getting over 20 mpg out of it.

Yeah, I think I will just stick with sourcing a 4bt. Where are you located and could you check to see if that 4bt is available and how much? I joined the 4bt diesel forum; trying to learn about them.

I am in Ft. Worth. BUT, I have a very good car buddy that lives part time here and part time in Salt Lake. He is also looking for a 4bt; so if the stars align, he might want the 4bt you mentioned. Or he could bring it back to Ft. Worth for me. Get me some info on it and I will talk to him. I do know he is in SLC now; I talked to him yesterday.
