Torque Converter Nose Will Not Seat Into Crankshaft. Why?
I bought a 1969 Ford 429 with a C65 and when I did the rebuild, I placed a 460 crank in it. Yesterday, I got back the C6 that was attached to the 429 after it was rebuilt. The transmission company who rebuilt the C6 had the original torque converter rebuilt to a 2200 stall to match my cam. Today, I went to try and put it all together, but the nose of the converter will not slide into the back of the crank. I made sure to get all the rust out of the back of the crank and all the paint from the nose of converter. Anybody have an idea of why it will not slid into the back of the crank?

There are two different sizes for the crank pilot.
According to this:
C-6 - FORD - Torque Converters - SummitRacing.com
you can look at TCs and see the different sized crank pilots. 1.375" and 1.850. Looks like you could have either on a 385 series motor.
