OK fellas I just bought a 1960 F250 4x4 and I want to put an inline 6 in her. The 429 that's in her now is newly rebuilt but I want a 6. I will be building (have someone build) the inline 6 from the block up and was wondering which block would be best to start with so I can start checking out yards for one. Also if someone could recommend a head so I can take it to get p&p. I'm looking to build something with plenty of power but good mpg because this will be my daily driver. Thanks
I have an Edelbrock 4 barrel that I would probably use and put a duel plane manifold & a couple of efy exhaust manifolds on, guess I should have said that to begin with.
Being as your running a carb I would imagine a older style block would be easier unless you plan on going with a electric fuel pump. I think the only differences in the blocks are the fuel pumps and the pans but I could be wrong.
I like using any of the 67-79 300 or 67-74 240 blocks.
The head really depends on what you are planning on doing. I would stick with an 86 or older head. The 65-74 240 heads will have a smaller combustion that's good for a .5 bump to the compression ratio. But you can accomplish the same thing with different pistons.
I've never seen an Edelbrock 4V intake for a 300. I knew a long time ago they made a 1V intake.
Sorry ment an Offy. intake. Does it matter what vehicle I get the block or heads off of? As far as trannys go I already have a C6 but was wondering if there would be an upgrade I should look at. I do about 50/50 highway/city driveing. Thanks again for all the help guys. As soon as I get the truck delivered I'll get some pics posted. She needs a bit of work but I think it will be a great project.
