I have been looking at what to do for lifters for my engine build. I have been searching and can't find much on the subject. I have a complete set from a 160k motor that have been out for about a year. Should I just soak them in oil and reuse them? Through Ford I can get a complete set for $531 or someone else recomended these: 94-03 Ford Powerstroke DI 7.3L V8 (16) ROLLER LIFTERS | eBay for $159 which is a big price difference but I know you get what you pay for. I'm just exploring some options and would like to hear some opinions.
you should replace lifters if replacing cam shaft during rebuild, atleast thats what I was always taught.lifters can be reused when matched back up with the camshaftand lobe they run with .
I dont have enough experiance with the 7.3 as far as longivity of cam and lifters,it will depend alot on clean/quality oil and air cleaner throughout its life. if engines well taken care of, it could be very possible to reuse, just factor in life left in the used cam and lifters versus cost to replace for peace of mind.wouldnt hurt to get cam measured for wear at machine shop unless have own micrometer and specs.
I appreciate your thoughts! I have absolutely no idea what kind of life this engine had before I purchased it. The camshaft was checked and is said to be in spec per my local machine shop.
