Towing my trailer (about 12K lbs) up the hill, I got a CEL, and a "low fuel pressure" warning followed by "reduced power" warning.
I was close to my destination and was able to limp in under its own power. It wouldn't build over 10 psi of boost.
I noticed that the pump in the fuel tank was making a ton of noise.
Got the truck to the dealer and the lift pump or low pressure (in-tank) fuel pump had failed.
Its replaced under warentee and truck is running fine again.
I think this is the first lift pump failure I've heard about - I know it was pretty common in Dodges, but not in Fords.
Wow...glad that everything turned out ok. I've haven't heard much of the in tank pump failing before. Glad it was fixed under warranty and you are back on the road.
while it was in for the repair, they also performed the 12B33 PCM and NOX sensor module recalib.
truck runs great, and only thing i've noticed is that it doesn't make the humming noise when I first start it that it did in the past (not fuel pump related) - I know others have had it too, and I don't think anyone has ever figured it out. There was some speculation that it might be turbo vanes cycling when you first start it. At any rate, its not doing it anymore.

Are you talking about once the truck cranks over or while the glow plugs are heating?
No fuel pump in the tank on these trucks but i'm glad they got it fixed for you.
are you sure ?
sure sounded like it was coming from the tank, unless its on top of the tank -
part number on repair tag came back as: FUEL PUMP F250, F350 Super Duty; 6.7L Diesel; In-Tank; 137, 142, 156" Wheelbase
It's my understanding that the pump is located in the same housing that the fuel filter is in. The one on the drivers side under the truck. Somebody will chime in to confirm this.

100% sure, there is no pump in tank. The "lift" pump is under the drivers seat near the fuel filter. I have mine replaced once at 10k and it has behaved ever since. Noisey as heck when it was on the way out. Threw a change fuel filter error code when it was actually the pump.
wow, thats amazing - I didn't crawl under the truck, just bent over and listened. It sure made a racket. Very interesting that it puts out 3 times the max needed - so it was operating at less than 33% but was still working.
then when I pulled up the part number, it specifies "in-tank"
this place is great, always good info to be learned here.
