Has anyone done it? Is it complicated/expensive? I have a vehicle that was registered/titled in texas. (Harris County) I lost the title and am wondering how hard it is to get a new one? I still have all my noterized receipts for purchase of the truck in 1996.
If the title was already in your name before you lost it, I think it's pretty easy getting a new one from the DMV. Now if you never changed over to your name, you're going to have to get a bonded title which is still not hard. It just take time and money. I bought a truck once from somebody who bought it from somebody, who bought it from some lady out of Missouri. Title was signed by her as the seller and the buyer section was filled out by the first buyer. I took the bill of sale from the guy I got it from and title and went to a guy not too far from my house who specializes in bonded titles. His charge was $100 and he has to send it off to some law firm that also charged $100 + sales tax on the vehicle. Few weeks later I got my paperwork for a bonded title that I had to take to the DMV to get a real title. Because the truck was never registered in Texas, I also had to get it inspected before I would receive my official Texas title. Hope that helps
Woohoo. Got my certified Title copy in the mail. It only took about 5 days. All i had to do was fill out that form, send in the informationa and a $2 check. I think it helped that i also provided to them the lost title number.
