Well when I bought my truck the guy put in the application thing at a unknown dealer to get my tags and title. Dont know why he didnt go to the court but thats another story. Well long story short the title was lost in the mail. The title was sent to me but I never recieved it.
So I called a few numbers and found out I needed to get a copy title.
My question is, with this "copy" can I still sell my truck? Or do I need the original title that vanished?
I think im freaking out over nothing but I thought i'd still ask.
If it's a copy title from the state it's as good as the origenal as it is actually just a replacement title. I have 1 vehicle right now that I had lost the title too and just applied for a lost title and it looks just exactly like the original.
As long as there is no lien on the vehicle and you are the owner, the DMV should be able to get you one. The title had to have been in your name for this to work, however. If the title was still in someone else's name, you will have to get them to apply for a replacement title.
I try to apply for a replacement title to my aunt's '71 Mercury. She has had the car since 1975, and she financed it for three years. She paid off the loan and was given a title in 1978. Unfortunatly, she lost the title, and the DMV's records indicate that there is still a lien on the car. Could we contact the bank? No, the bank was "absorbed" by larger banks. Anyone know who took over Colonial American Bank?
Well Tiggie I might have posted too soon on the Colonial American thing.
Was just talking to my Daughter who works in the title section of First Union & she thinks Colonial American may have ended up at Sun Trust.
She'll check it out tomorrow & call me back, so I'll post her findings.
If it's First Unuion, she can be of some help, if it's Sun Trust, she still may be able to provide some names & numbers for you to try.
So tomorrow we'll see.
She did say whomever you talk to, you'd need a "Lean Satisfaction Letter" from the lender, along with the vehicles VIN #, if they/you can't locate the origional title & you end up having to get the DMV to issue a replacement title.
Well Tiggie & anyone else interested, it seems that Colonial American was acquired in 89, by Crest Star, who then merged with SunTrust in Jan 2000.
So you need to contact the Sun Trust "Title Release" department at 888-461-8862 & weep on their shoulders & see what they suggest at this late juncture!!!!
