Since your engine is running for now, I would not do much else. Just leave it alone, except to keep it running as good as you can. Such as figuring out why it cuts out sometimes. You do have more variance in the compression numbers than is desired, but at least you don't have any real dead cylinders. If you can get by with the engine as it is now, why mess with it? Just keep your eyes and ears open for another engine that you can replace yours with.
Well it will run with the mis but sometimes it will die out all of the sudden. But it will start right back up and run with the mis. So say if it was just sitting there idling and you got on amd turn the wheel I will die but not overtime. Putting it in reverse or forward gear it will not die. I mean the compression not that great bit runnable right
I'm not sure about the 6.9 but those are not bad compression numbers for something with a half million miles. 300lbs is still not bad.
86f250 is right the numbers are all over the map and you would usually expect them to be a little closer. I could see the wide compression numbers causing a little bit of a rough idle but I wouldn't trash the motor. I read some where that the 7.3 was considered good with compression numbers between 250 and 400. You just loose power with compression but they can keep going for years. I would go with chevy454 on this one.
I don't think that's causing it to die though. With those compression numbers as long as it has fuel it should run so to just die I would look for a problem in the fuel system.
I think you might have two separate symptoms caused by two separate problems.
Short in the fuel cut off switch in the injection pump would cause it just to shut off. Since you have been working on it maybe it has gotten loose. Its one of the wires on the top of the injection pump
Okay got the valve covers back on. So my dad says let it run for as long as possible to get everything out of the motor. So its idling and after about 20 or 30 mins its started making a tapping noise like a lifter is going out so its still running them all the sudden shuts off. I thanl its getting hot but the gage stays at the r and n in normal. But its never got over the n while idling or driving maybe highway. So what you guys thank now. There was a lot of pressure on the top radiator hose. Could not even touch the radiator it felt so hot. Could it be the head baskets. Thank once again guys your a lot of help
run out while it's running and feel the metal injector lines.the extra hot one is the injector you killed with water.slap a new/reman in there and run 'er.just try and avoid the deep holes next time lol.
Ok ill give that a try tomorrow. Good thang I work for ford lol cheaper stock parts. Oh i forgot to mention when it Shut off. I tryed to restart it and it sounded like the starter was bad or battery but both r less than 4 months old.kind of like its hot and it don't wanna start real weak. PS got a lot of money in this truck and motor but I Love it

I maybe totally wrong on this and have no experience but this sentence makes me wounder if the injector could be busted up so bad that its free flowing and causing hydro lock or creating so much heat that the motor is locking up. Just an idea but someone else will have to give it a valid answer.
I no its getting hot and not starting but the gage probably not accurate since i have never had a new one. I hope its just something simple cause I have a spare motor with all the parts still on it. How would a stuck injector cause it to get hot like the antifreeze is hot and hose is under pressure when shut off. What about the thermostat could be stuck close maybe. Just full of questions I guess wish me luck I check whatever i can
He ment the high pressure feed line getting hot and it is because when pressure is built it builds heat think of it like this an air compressor feed line from the motor to the tank gets hot fast because compressing builds heat
