it installs under the rear seat in place of the storage box. the seat still functions perfect as the design is identical to the previous generation. its extremely useful for cargo or gear or dogs or just about anything that you want to keep out of the elements, but off your nice seats.
i put my dogs kennel on it and strap in down so it cant move. very safe for travel. also use it for backpacks, suitcases, gun cases, or anything else i might be traveling with that i dont want in the bed for whatever reason (weather, security, delicate items)
I think ford could have done a little better in the rear storage space. It's quite simple really my 05 (new gen) Tacoma had a better plan. te *** portion of the seat would actually flip forward 90 degrees instead of backward like the ford. Storage bins underneath the *** portion are pretty much the same as the ford except they have their own lids instead of using the seat as a lid. Then on the tacoma you remove the head rest pieces and place them in slots on the *** cushion which keeps the out of the way. then the back rest flips forward 90 degrees which have you a flat space to put things. It's sounds complicated but it only took a minute or two to setup this way and you can have a flat space and keep your storage bins under the seat plus you also had storage agains the back wall as welljust like the ford. I wish I had some pics but I hope you guys get what I am saying.
you can "kind of" do that with these trucks. but its not the same as a heavy gauge steel floor that folds out perfectly flat. plus is a 60/40 configuration so you can mix it up between storage and seating. its like having more bed space but on the inside of the truck. damn i love my flat load floor.
What about a DC powered cooler? We have used it twice already.
well i suppose if the dc plug in the back of the console is inop, and the ac plug is out too, then i would be a perfect place. now im really gonna put some thought into making a mount on the flat load floor. i think you need the spare sitting in my room right now.
I might...I want to see a picture. My jumper cables, tow strap, hitch, gloves and tools fit awful neat under the seats now. Plus, I may end up putting some subs under the back seats. You see, I have a slight addiction to loud music. I'm 41 going on 18.

all that stuff (minus the subs, which can go behind the seat on the wall)belongs in your weatherguard bed chest. duh
I don't do tool boxes. Need room for bigger stuff...like emergency visits to the ATV mechanic, hauling Boy Scout camping gear, mulch, and had them on 6 previous trucks and better not ever need one again...ever.
I have a trailer. I like my 6.5' bed. It turns nice...fits in my garage nicely too. CC with an 8' box would fit with only inches in front and in back. Not worth the headache.
they are funny looking. big ole honkin front end, big ole cab, then a bed that looks like it fell off an f150. just sayin... its all about proportion. besides, thats why ford put 25 gal tanks in em, to deter people who need real trucks from buyin em.
