DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON HOW TO GET THE APPROPRIATE TORQUE CONVERTER,FLEX PLATE, AND SPACER TO MATE THE C4 TO THE 2.9. I ALSO NEED A WIRING DIAGRAM FOR THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM AS I GETTING THE ENGINE OUT OF AN 89 BRONCO WITH MAN TRANS.
Easiest way to get a C4 for the 2.9 would be to
find a 2.8 from a mid to late 70's Mustang, as they did
use the C4, and I'm not certian, but the TC and flex plate
should bolt up, and have the right balance for the 2.9...
THIS PROJECT, 2.9 WITH C4 IS A CUSTOM CONVERSION I AM DOING. I HAVE A GUY WHO I AM GETTING THE KIT FROM, WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY FOR A 2.8, TELLING ME THE 2.8 BELLHOUSING WILL BOLT TO THE 2.9 BUT THE SALVAGE YARD MAN TELLS ME IT WILL NOT BOLT UP."HES BEEN IN THE BUSINESS 30 YEARS" . WILL THE 2.9 BOLT UP?
Yes it does bolt up. Use the 2.8 flex plate, flex plate spacer, and starter. "Junkyard Guy" is full of B.S. The C4/5 has succesfully been used behind many 2.9's and 4.0's. don't forget to hook up the kickdown, also.
i dont know about your tranny question but as far as you bolt pattern question, the 2.8 and 2.9 are the same block with same bolt patters, the only diff is the heads, and intake
Originally posted by Majisto I always thought the C5 was different than the C4? The C5 went onto be the A4LD and 5R55E which I have in my SOHC 4.0. Hmm...
Nope. the C3 trans used in 2.0/2.3/2.8 2wd/auto aplications became that POS A4LD. The C4/C5 are the same tranny, with a different valve body. If you are a 2wd, you can just used a C4. If you are a 4x4, then using a C5 out of a 4x4 ranger/B2 would be a bolt in.
