Talking Final Decisions on new SD

Hi guys! I trully appreciate all the advice given me on the "credit card for deposit" issue. The next and final decision (I hope) is this:
I'm rackin' my mind trying to decide over the Captains Chairs with the, sorry to say "cheesy" lookin' console or go with the 40/20/40 split for its dual purpose center console and extra seating ability.

What are your opinions on this aspect?

The vehicle I am lookin' to order is a F-250 Reg. Cab XLT 4x4 with V-10, Auto. FX4 package and Heavy Service Suspension and manual T-case. It'll have the 6-CD player, Camper Mirrors, Sliding rear window with privacy glass and the reverse monitor system, just to name a few of the goodies....

Also, I'm thinking about going with the Sonic Blue paint..... Hmmmmm........

Thanks Guys!

I prefer the 40/20/40 seat myself. I find it much more comfortable than the captain's chairs with the console.

I never use the extra seating of the 40/20/40....but it does make for a much better armrest IMO.

Hope this helps.

I like the 40/20/40 seat. When I was on the used truck market, I searched specifically for 40/20/40 with supercab as I couldn't afford the SuperCrew for extra seatings. I got two school aged kids and this seating gives us flexibility. Often they ride up front with three of us. Whenever mom tags along, then either one or both of them will sit in the back. I like the height of the arm rest folded down as it's height is high enough. Just my two cents worth.

Well as usual I guess I'm the one that disagrees. I prefere the Capt chairs with the cheesy console. I think that they are more comfortable and its easier to get to the stuff around you. The console can be replaced with an upgrade any time. If you do decide to go with the split seat you can always go to the local Yard and pick up a set of capt chairs later. and visa versa. Its a taste thing I guess. Bench seat are more for the Senior Citizen.heheheh. Later

P.s. FXDL ?
That wouldn't just happend to stand for a low rider would it ? Just asking.

Yes Sir Southern! It does in deed stand for Low Rider. One of my other toys. Now I need the pick-me-up truck to haul it around in (among other things).

As for the Bucket seating vs. Split bench, I find it difficult to see where the difference would be in comfort levels. They look almost the same except for the center section. Of course, I haven't had the pleasure of driving either model over a long period of time. I think the Ford dealer would frown upon that idea for a test drive.

On thing at least with the Ford Reg. cab is that you do have the choice of buckets or split-bench. Unlike the Chebby equivalent (if you can call it that).

I wonder when Ford will bring out its version of a "Driver Information Center" The lack of an overhead informational console in the XLT disappoints me.

Thanks all!

I like the split seat because it gives you more flexibility to carry more passengers and it does make a more comfortable armrest. IMO, with the regular cab, that "extra" seat will come in handy. Good luck!

Spend the few extra $$ and get the F350, same truck, only with a door sticker that gives it a higher GVWR. It's worth every penny to you and the next guy who buys the truck if you plan on doing any hauling or towing. Plus, you get to say it's an F350. I can't emphasize enough how big a deal this is when it comes to legalities.

As for the seat, in a regular cab, I'd go with the split bench hands down, otherwise you might as well be in a two seater sports car.
The split bench is a comfortable seat and gives you way more flexibilty.

I'd save your money on the Ford 6 disc CD as well, it's not that great a unit, and when you figure what you're paying for it (almost a $1000 CDN), you can put in one heck of an aftermarket system for the same cost.

Other than that, she sounds sweet!

I had considered the F-350. The problem is that it is just too tall for the garage! As it is, the F-250 just clears it by my calculations. I have looked at ways to gain more clearence but it just isn't possible.

Whats up with the Canadian pricing on the 6 CD unit? Its less than 200.00 US for the upgrade under the X-Plan in the US.

Thanks again! By the way, how do you like the Sonic Blue Paint?

The F350 should be the same height as the F250, if not, simply replace the 4" rear blocks under the rear springs with the 2" blocks. Also, the advertised heights are a little off, the truck will "take a sag" over time, especially the front springs, although I notice you spec'd the heavy spring package so it shouldn't be as bad for you. I'd look into it closely, go down to the dealer and do some side by side comparisons.

Ride height has more to do with the spring designations than with F250/F350, you're F250 is going to ride high.

What's up with the Canadian pricing on the 6 CD unit? Its less than 200.00 US for the upgrade under the X-Plan in the US.
I've posted on this a couple times before, but Ken doesn't archive threads in this forum.

The cost of the 6CD changer is more exaggerated in Canada, but holds true down there as well. Go to Ford.com and build/price yourself a truck. You'll find that if you delete the standard CD (get the radio/tape only) and add in the cost of the 6CD upgrade it will cost you about $500 USD. I'm going to assume you can buy a pretty good stereo for that. You may want to do a search on the 6CD unit here, people have reported some problems and short comings with it.

I saved myself $1000 CDN by deleting the stock CD/not ordering the 6CD changer and installing my own CD player. (Which is a breeze.)

By the way, how do you like the Sonic Blue Paint?
Love it.

Thanks for the advice Waxy! I'll take it. I'm going to run with the standard CD/Cassette player. If I want something more down the road, I'll buy afternarket at that time. Most of the time its the radio I'm listening to anyway!

I did some more calculations on my garage door and was able to squeek out 2 more inches at the door height. Opening is now 82" and according to the F-350 specs, they sit at 80.3" tall. That should give me the needed clearence! Therefore, I shall seriously consider the F-350.

Now, If I could just make up my mind on the colours! I'm leaning towards the sonic blue but I like the true blue with the silver accent as well..... Jeez......

Thanks Waxy, and all the guys on this forum!

Glad to help FXDL!

The stock stereo is a nice unit, and should you decide to upgrade, there's always a demand for them used.

I don't think the trucks actually sit at 80", I'd being willing to bet dollars to donuts that mine isn't sitting that high right now and I'm running 285 tires. That's almost 7'. I don't think you'll regret the F350.

My truck is the True Blue (pics in my gallery), I really like it, but it does show the dirt real bad, it's closer to black than blue. It does look real good in the sunlight though.

I went with the darker colour because it contrasts better with chrome.

I liked the original Royal blue colour they offerred in '99 the best. Of the blues offered in '02 I chose the True Blue over the Island Blue(ugly IMHO, no offense to anyone, just my thoughts) as the nicest colour available in '02. I do like the Torreador Red though, but my last truck was red.

I think you're on the right track! Both blues are really nice, so you can't really go wrong.

Get that truck ordered and then get ready for what's gonna seem like the longest wait of your life.

I figure the specified height listed in the brochure is the MAXIMUM height possible depending on equipment ordered. Atleast that is what I hope. Either way, I should have clearence.

The Toreador Red is nice too! Thought about that colour. Saw a new Ext. Cab 250 done up in Toreador Red and Silver two tone. Looked real sharp!

Well, just have to see what color mood I'm in when I order the truck....

Time to go and run through the Ford Direct Build Your Own site one more time!

Thanks for all your help!

I went with the split seat myself and they are great. I also had them in my 96 F150.
My truck is an XLT 4X2 Dark Shadow Grey Metallic with the XLT Sport Pkg. which comes with the grey bumpers and grill. I think this makes a sharp looking rig.
Picked mine up 2 weeks ago today. It took exactly 1 month from order placement to delivery. So far the 6.0 5speed has performed flawlessly at a little over 700 miles.

Billy Gardner

By the way I have the 6 disc CD changer and I like it fine.

One other bit of advice if you haven't ordered the truck yet. Get the power take-off provision for the transmission (if you're getting a gas engine). Although Ford lists only one option code for the automatic tranny, there really are several different transmissions. If you order the take-off provision, you will get the strongest components that Ford puts in ANY automatic. If you'll be doing any towing or plan on keeping the truck for a long time, you will not regret getting this option.
