Excellent point!!!
That is a common type of failure stock converters and all rebuilt converters using a stock converter core suffer from. When they fail and take the transmission with them, the converter actually flys apart inside, which causes colleterial damage to the transmission requiring a new converter and a rebuilt transmission.

The added triple disk lock up clutches and billet cover is to strengthen two other weak points in stock converters. However adding triple disk lock up clutches and a billet cover to a stock converter core will not prevent a fly apart failure. It's more likely to occur in rebuilt converters because they already have end play that can't be reduced. The stock design can't be completely fixed with add-ons. The add on billet cover and triple disk clutch designs are weaker than the type used to build new aftermarket converters. That is because they have to be made smaller and with less material thickness to fit a stock converter.

A new converter made from a different and stronger design is the only fix for converter fly apart and preventing your transmission from being ruined by converter failure.

The majority of the converters for sale on Ebay are rebuilt from stock converter cores, which is why they are very low in cost. All things made from used parts always are! What it costs to repair and replace the damage they can cause is not!
Consider some Ebay parts, especially converters time bombs. Most are being sold from someone's basement or garage by sellers who have no product knowledge. The rest are from part time and full time businesses that can't afford their own websites and have little product knowledge.

A new converter made from a different and stronger design will cost more, however not as much as replacing your transmission will.

.
First of all thank you for your input. But I am always in search of more knowledge about torque converters for the 4r100. But like you said most people even the people selling torque converters don't even know how they work or how they are rebuilt or built. So if you could be as so kind to tell me what you mean by "they already have end play that can't be reduced." Are you talking about the turbine hub? If so the turbine hub can and should be replaced when rebuilding a t.c. But most rebuilders of stock converters don't replace the turbine hub due to the cost.

And can you please explain more details about what you mean by "A new converter made from a different and stronger design is the only fix for converter fly apart and preventing your transmission from being ruined by converter failure." I am looking for information on what parts are different and how are different or improved.

For those following this thread: Torque converter discussion is being continued in BadDogKuzz's thread linked here: Understanding 4R100 torque converter problems.
