and don't the repop boards all attach differently than the originals? i.e., which go all the way in and attach on the top of the frame? that seems reason enough to want to repair the originals
Ha, a few days ago I sent a spacing gauge for the ridges and a piece of flat stock to use as a pattern for the ridges to my dad....He's gonna see what he can come up with on the mill and start pressing 3 ridge patch panels for me. (about 5.5" wide x 10" long) If they come out as well as I think they will, they will soon be available.

So here I am with one of my running boards cleaned, rust cut out, and ready for new steel. Any word from your dad? Availability? Cost? Shipping? My boards are of the shorty series but the pattern is the same so far as I know.
Or Axracer indicated that the light may have gone on?
I resently bought a set of F3 running boards, cheap. With them having minor rust through there is more than enough good metal for patches on my F1. Same ridges. chuck
They are finishing up cutting the die in the CNC today....he said he has to get the alignment pins put on it, and get it set up in the 20 ton press...Hopefully pressing panels by the weekend....I'll post pics as soon as I get them.

Thanks, I will hold off further repairs 'till I see what is happening. Longer would be much better, though.
I agree a replacement ribbed surface would be a good option, almost all of them rust out from the reinforcements underneath collecting dirt and water. The thing I found with my RB's was that the curl on the outside is very hard to work straight. It's very thick steel, and apparently work-hardened. That curl seems to take a lot of hits over the years.

We aren't even pressing yet. I keep getting bumped off the cnc mill by paying customers, (this project is a "favor", and I don't pay didley) and then Life keeps getting in the way....(apparently May-June is Wedding and Surgery season...who knew...)
Last I heard the bottom part of the die is cut/done, and the top is still an un-cut piece of 1/2" steel plate sitting on top of it on the shelf.
"sometime this summer" is the best estimate I can get out of them.
I took my drawings to a local machine shop last week, I should have an estimate to do it locally soon.
I have an extra right 56 running board I plan to use to patch with. I should have lots left. Some of the ribs are good but the outside edge is banged up. Let me know if I can help.
