Voltage Regulator
In my 79 f100 i keep burning up external voltage regulators. I bought the truck and the previous owner put in a 302 from a 2000 explorer. Could the alternator be putting out to many volts? Whats the little tube looking thing attached to one of the mounting screw on the regulator? Its not hooked up to anything? I installed a painless wiring harness on the truck but I double checked all my wiring. I will go back and triple check, but any thoughts?

I keep burning mine out also, asked someone at a rebuild shop (alternator and starter) and he said make sure it is grounded good. My screws had the holes enlarged in the inner fender,and it would not stay tight. I moved it over and put in new screws and also ran a ground to the battery, haven't burned one out since.
