How bad is it? I have a '92 F-150 5.0 E4OD truck. 2wd. The front pump in the trans whines, and the pressure is low. There is a 60k mile after-rebuild 4WD E4OD on craigslist. How bad is it to swap the output shaft? I'd assume I'll have to pull the pump, gear sets, etc. I have rebuilt some non overdrive automatics before.
Well crap. If the trans has all the proper upgrades it may be worth it if I can get it cheap enough. RNR-ing parts I think I can handle myself, it's all the machining and upgrades that I can't.
IIRC I'll be about 1600-1700 into a proper rebuild of the '92 E4OD. So many parts need replaced, the pump, support bearing, solenoids etc. to do a proper rebuild. The guy with the rebuilt 4x4 E4OD is asking $800. I was thinking of more like $500-$600 or it won't be worth the hassle.
I'm going to contact the original owner who had the trans rebuilt and see what all was done to it.
