Howdy,
I purchased a 1968 ford f100, with a 240 6 and 4 speed, and also a bad case of old truck syndrome, for $550. I changed the rotor and points, and also did some carb work, but when I went to plug the vacuum advance back in after finishing, I realized that there were in fact 2 things to plug air hoses into on the distributer vacuum advance thing. One at the end, like on the series of Datsuns I've owned, and another one on top. There are 2 problems with that, one is that I didn't realize there were 2 so I didn't take care to remember which one I unplugged the vacuum advance from. Does vacuum advance plug into the top or into the end? and the other problem is that there was nothing plugged into the other one to begin with, shouldn't there be?
Also, the truck has a pretty bad lifter tick. I havn't taken the valve cover off yet, but I was wondering if there was a commen cause for this, something that these Ford sixes are well known for doing.
Here's a link to a picture of a vacuum advance thing very similer to mine, just so you guys can visualize what I'm talking about. I'm not sure which one I'm supposed to plug vacuum advance into and what is supposed to be plugged into the other one.
