My carpet is in good shape except it is faded in some areas. has anyone ever tried to dye their carpet. i know they have the aerosol can stuff but i feel like that would do a very poor job. just wondering if anyone had any pointers or products to recommend.
I wouldnt dye any carpet. To me dye is fine if its used on vinyl dashes, door panels or pieces that dont get a lot of wear and tear. I think dying a carpet will end up in a disaster. But thats just my opinion and Ive never tried it. I would just reccommend replacing it.
A few years ago I restored a 1986 K5 Blazer. The carpet was in generally good shape but faded in places. I tried the kraptastic "Meets or Exceeds OEM specs" carpet from Auto Custom Carpets but it wasn't nearly as nice a carpet (and it didn't fit well either) as the original.
I took the original carpet to a company that did cleaning and dying (yellow pages) and it turned out very nicely.
Three years later the dyed carpet still looks great.
Honestly if your carpet is in pretty good shape I think having it dyed is preferable to buying the ACC junk. Yes, it really is that bad.
