education on coils

OK now what is the difference between a coil for a points type, breakerless, CDI, and electronic ignitions. I need to replace a coil in my sisters car and according to the manual it requires a coil with resistance between 1.05-1.27 ohms. This car has electronic ignition and I was looking in my catalogs and see that Accel has a coil(8140) for points type ignitions with 1.2 ohms and another coil(8145) for electronic ignitions with .7 ohms resistance. So should I go with the one for electronic ignitions even though it has less than the required resistance or could I use the one for points that has about the right level? Does it hurt anything to use a coil with more or less resistance than what is specified? Hope you can offer some advice.

Less resistance means more current draw through the coil. This can create a hotter spark, but can also be hard on the electronic ignition box/module. I would mate an OEM coil with an OEM ignition. If you want an aftermarket brand coil, I would use their corresponding ignition system with it, since they are designed to work together.

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I was looking at an aftermarket coil is because the factory coil costs 59.95 for a standard looking canister type coil and this car uses two coils so thats like $120 ouch!
