I try to make it a point to come back and post my resolutions when I ask about a problem. Mine was one of those misfire issues that would not throw a code. So after spending a bunch of money at the shop and getting no solution I brought it home and started actually troubleshooting. I guess it is a lost art at repair shops.
I pulled the fuel rail to find one injector missing the top o-ring. I was like WTF!!!! The #8 cylinder had a misfire. The missing o-ring was on #5. I replaced both #5 and #8 injectors and still got no relief. My next step was to replace the buzzing motorcraft pcv valve. Nope, did'nt do the trick. I then replaced the motorcraft platinum plugs with new motorcraft platinum plugs on that entire bank and so far so good. I'm thinking after they did thier service and replaced the plugs the faulty injector gassed the new plug. That pointed them to COP's. I took it back from them at that point. So, 120 miles later it is getting the best mpg I've seen 16.6 on the interstate coming home and pulls like normal. The idle is a tad rough but it was like that for a while. I need to replace the ratty exhaust on it and I'll clean the MAF sensor and the K&N as it is time. Thanks to all for sticking in there and helping me along.
