Hi all, got a question for you, how hard is it to replace fuel injector's ? my truck is missing out again, i have replaced the plugs, IAC valve and claened my MAF sensor, all this helped for a while but now it is doing the same thing again it has a miss in it at start up, after it run's for a minute or so it is ok. I am getting code # p0303 cylinder 3 misfire, do you think it may be the fuel injector ? If so can i replace just the one or do i have to replace them all at the same time ? My truck is a 98 4.0 4x4 with auto transmission. Thank's
I would tend to think plug wires...and others on this forum will tell you Motorcraft are the only ones to use. What year, engine, and how many miles???
thank's for the reply. The plug wire's have been replaced also, I replaced them myself at about 98,000 miles along with the plug's, and continued to have the problem so i took it to the dealer, and they said the same thing so i had them to replace them, I assume they did it with Motorcraft plug's an wire's. I now have 104,500 mile's on it. It is a 98 ranger with the 4.0
You can replace just one, however If I were you I would pull them all, and send them in to have tested and cleaned. it will cost you about 100 bucks, but it is cheaper than $350 for a new set of plugs.
When does it misfire? Under load? just Idling? You could suspect a bad fuel injector, but it might be a shot in the dark.
Leaky intake or head gaskets, or a slightly cracked head, are also known to cause misfires on the 4.0L OHV. Have you noticed any coolant disappearing lately?
Peter, it only misses out when i first start it up, and then after it run's for a couple of minute's, not even that long it smoothe's out an then run's fine. Rockledge, I used to notice a little coolant loss between oil changes, I noticed one day a little antifreeze around the radiator cap, so i replaced it an haven't lost any since. we are going to be taking a trip in it today, so we will see what happen's thanks
I would look at your fuel pressure regulator. Do you have any hard starting symptoms, like it cranks longer than it should, and you have to give it gas to get it started? To me it sounds like a fuel related issue being it only happens on startup and goes away.
